Article II

Duo of Moniales
By Amanda Therese

Like my pervious article of a Sister of many, about Sister Joseph Andrew O.P. there are two others in this world that deserve to be known, I am talking about Sister Judith Miryam of the Trinity O.P and Sister Mary Catharine of Jesus O.P. of Our Lady of the Rosary Monastery in Summit, NJ. And here is how it all began:

The very first Dominican monastery I ever contacted was Our Lady of the Rosary Monastery in Summit, NJ, and my first inquires or story went off to Sister Judith Miryam, who later responded with, that I should contact their Novice Mistress who had been her guidance for a part of eleven years before she joined the monastery. So I did contact their Novice Mistress, Sister Mary Catharine ((who like Sister Judith Miryam, has been my guidance for about a year and a half)). But lets skip the whole bunch of history shall we?

Out of all the sisters/nuns ((technical difference between the two)) I have never known such two excited nuns, who have been and are still rooting for me when the day of Easter Vigil 2006 will come where I be baptized and confirmed, I have never ever had so much spiritual direction then I have by these two nuns, ((I mean honestly! Come over to my house and see my bookshelf full of fantastic things I have received from Sister Judith Miryam!)) And I have never ever felt such power of love when I told these nuns of the trying times I been through.

I got off the phone with Sister Judith Miryam the other day ((to check in on her!)) And when we were talking, your mind would be so boggled with wonderful, amazing, phenomenal things, ((until we got cut off by the devil, to which I re-called Sister.)) You would be smiling the whole time! At the end of the conversation, she said before going into compline –night prayer- that if I ever needed to chat about anything, or just call, to call, and I could literally feel my heart open, it made me feel so wonderful, and after, I sat down and prayed. We’ve shared joys, sorrows, we’ve laughed, we’ve smiled, we’ve talked about the Vatican and various other catholic things, we’ve given advice, and shared pretty much everything, and we most certainly have loved! ((And in some cases we’ve agreed on the samething!))

Now, for the Novice Mistress! Phew! What a job, Sister Mary Catharine isn’t an ordinary nun, she’s also an author, of a book –I read now 12 times- called “Amata Means Beloved” A beautiful book –or I wouldn’t have read it that many times!- you can order it from this website: amatameansbeloved.8m.com or from iUniverse. Sister Mary Catharine is one of those nuns who is on top of things, and can fully make a bad day be the best day of your life by a single joke, or re-check the ingredients of the Stollen Bread recipe if the bread tastes very, very, very, very different. And then of course being the Novice Mistress, she has aspirants, and postulants and well I would assume…novices on her hands, she is very good at taking care of others. Countless of times though she seems to be just a comedian and has some great surprises up her sleeves. And I pray for both Sister Mary Catharine and Sister Judith Miryam that one of the two will be the next Prioress and the other on the council!

I am already attached to these two, ((exactly like Velcro)) we’ve done favors and prayers for one another, and they know that they are my future BIG sisters, even if I somehow for some reason don’t end up joining their community, and if I don’t, they will probably get 50 letters in their mail box from me every month!

This article is dedicated to two of my other future and already BIG Sisters. Who are cloistered Dominican Nuns of Our Lady of the Rosary Monastery in Summit, New Jersey. Visit their website at: www.op.org/nunsopsummit and their blog: www.monialesop.blogspot.com I strongly urge you to check out their community and BUY Sister Mary Catharine’s book “Amata Means Beloved” for you will not regret it! May God the Father almighty bless Sister Judith Miryam and Sister Mary Catharine and their community, “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.”
